Republican form of government
Either you are a citizen or a subject. A citizen is a powerful force in his/her society. An informed citizen is not to be toyed with. You have all heard that “the truth will set you free” before. What does that mean? It means that when you know the truth, you can not be manipulated by propaganda. The basics of citizenship are a must if you are to remain free. Knowing the history of how we ended up where we are today is essential if you are going to be able to maintain your freedom once won.
Now that you know that the U.S. Constitution guarantees us a republican form of government, what is that exactly?

“REPUB”LIC, n. [L. respublica; res and publica; public affairs.]
(The Greeks had a wonderful way of keeping their representatives in line. Every year they had the citizens write the name of a representative on a piece of clay that they thought was bad. After the tally, the one with the most votes in the vase had his possessions stripped and got banished for ten years. Most of their reps towed the line.)
Sounds like a democracy doesn’t it? That is until you throw in the VII Amendment to the Bill of rights. Keep in mind that a slave is subject to the laws of the master, or the rule of man. A free man/woman can only be governed by laws they agree to. What law did we agree would govern our interactions in our republic?
Amendment 7 – Trial by Jury in Civil Cases. Ratified 12/15/1791.
“In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.”
There it is, “common law.” The basics of common law are these:
- Do everything you have agreed to do. (the basis of contract law)
- do not encroach on other persons or their property. (the basis of some criminal and civil law)
We had a choice, the rule of man (good King – bad King) or the rule of law that we all agreed to. We chose the rule of law. Common Law was the guide – on when the founders wrote the Constitution. Number one, our Constitution is our contract with government. Number two, the government could not encroach on us or our property.
Article I section 9, says that the central government we set up cannot tax us directly. It has to take a census, then Congress has to create a bill to raise revenue. This isn’t a standing bill, it has to apply to a particular incident that we need to pay, like a war debt. The government before WWII subsisted on Tariff’s and a tax on whiskey and tobacco. This was to ensure the small size and unintrusiveness of the Federal Government.
Really examine this subject of the Common Law and you will come to the understanding that it sets you free. If there is no victim, there is no crime under Common Law.. Your body and mind are yours, and if your actions are harmful to just you, then it’s your decision. Others can point out the errors of your ways, but ultimately the decision is yours. Laws can not be made to make you comply with some one else’s idea of utopia. We have a word for just that kind of personal freedom, and it is “liberty.”
In our republic, law is our protection from mob rule (democracy). The mob cannot vote for something that violates our laws. Our law guarantees that your life, liberty and property are safe from the mob.
In our beginning, only property owners could vote. Today, our republic is under seige by the the socialist being elected to office who only have to promise the dregs of our society, that can now vote, more booty from the producers.
We didn’t leave Europe because of religious prosecution as our elementary school text suggest, We left because of socialism. It just wasn’t called socialism back then.
Next… Liberty defined.
